Nalanda Gedige is a puzzling archaeological site found close to Matale where the structure resembles a south Indian Hindu temple but also contains various Buddhist influences. It is an interesting and quite puzzling archaeological site found close to Matale. The structure resembles a south Indian Hindu temple but also contains various Buddhist influences. Archaeologists attribute the structure to between the 8th and 10th century, these dark times where south Indian invaders ruled the land is perhaps why this temple is a mix of two contrasting architectural styles.

Kindly cover your shoulders, knees, take off your shoes and bring a pair of socks as the ground may heat up.

Flash photography may not be allowed inside the temple. Please respect Buddhist customs and do not take pictures with your back to Lord Buddha. Watch out for monkeys! Avoid bringing food items in plain sight, do not feed them and watch your belongings.
