Ritigala

Ritigala is the site of ruins of an ancient Buddhist monastery and lush forest. The mountain of Ritigala situated South East of Anuradhapura provide some of the most interesting ruins found in Sri Lanka. An ancient Buddhist monastery and cave complex, Ritigala’s ruins include: a complex granite footpath leading to the monastery; a hospital which includes stone beds and oil baths; and two raised platforms connected by a stone bridge, used for meditation.

Child Friendly. Prams not recommended due to steps.

Approx. 2h (not inclusive of travel time)

Difficulty:

Moderate (a few boulders and steps in certain places)

What to wear/bring:

Light and comfortable clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat

Guided visit. no site guide available.

Good to know:

We recommend visiting in the morning. No dress code, the site offers plenty of shade.
