Sigiriya rock fortress is an unmatched combination of urban planning, water engineering, horticulture and arts. Carved into the rock, King Kashyapa, decided to construct his palace a top of the rock decorating the surrounding areas with water gardens. Sigiriya is perhaps most well-known for its frescos of the “damsels of Sigiriya”. The visit compromises of three major stages: The frescos; The terrace of the Lions claws; and the palace ruins a top the rock.

Recommended for children above 8 years. Prams not recommended due to steps.

Approx. 02h (depends on climbing pace & not inclusive of travel time)

Difficulty:

Moderate to Challenging (1200 steps)

What to wear/bring:

Light and comfortable clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat

Guided visit. If unaccompanied by a guide a site guide can be arranged.

Good to know:

Watch out for monkeys! Avoid bringing food items in plain sight, do not feed them and watch your belongings.
