Routes & How to include in your holiday

The routes match Sri Lanka’s seasons to provide a calm experience on the Indian ocean, with a Southern route and Eastern Route. Overall, we recommend spending a day or 2 on the yacht during the beach leg of your holiday.

Southern Route (November to April)

From November to April, the Ocean Diamond will Sail up and down the southern coast. The Yacht starts it's a loop from Mirissa on day 1, moving towards Beruwala in Day 2, Tallala on Day 3, Kalametiya on Day 4, Kirinda close to Yala on day 5, Mawella on Day 6 and back to Mirissa on day 7.

Guests can hop on and off as they like. If guests have a preference of routes, our travel advisors will customize your itinerary to make sure guests don’t miss their preferred routes. We would recommend getting on board on Day 5 or Day 6 after visiting Yala National Park be the best chance of sighting whales.

The Southern Route

Eastern Route (May to October)

From May to October, the ocean diamond moves to the pristine East Coast. The yacht follows a similar hop on, hop off the system. With Day 1 in Trincomalee, Day 2 in Sallitivu Island and Day 3 back in Trincomalee.

The Eastern Route

Don’t fancy an overnight Cruise?

One of the Catamarans used for day trips

If spending a night onboard is not within your budget or interests. Sail Lanka offers brilliant day cruises in Jaffna, Trincomalee, Passikudah, Mirissa, Beruwala and Galle with a cruise in Kalpitiya in the making. Off these cruises, we have some absolute favourites that we think you should try.

Delft Island Discovery - The North and its islands are a world away from the rest of the country, it is in many respects, Sri Lanka’s last frontier. In the Palk Bay, west of Jaffna, a string of largely uninhabited islands offers the visitor the experience of the traditional lifestyle of these people. Visit the Delft Island with its Wild Horses and old Dutch fort.

On request, we can arrange for guests to be dropped off on the island of Nagadeepa/Nainativu with its beautiful Hindu Kovil and historically important Buddhist Temple. In this case, the trip back to the mainland will be done by ferry or motorboat.

The Giants Loop - Whale Watching in Mirissa & Trincomalee – This 7-hour cruise which includes breakfast, lunch and watersports such as Stand up paddle and snorkelling. Is ideal for those that want a more private and exclusive whale watching experience. The cruise is run in Mirissa from November to April and Trincomalee from May to September.

*The above 3 cruises are usually booked on a shared basis but can be privatized for a special price
