Known as the Temple of the Tooth, this temple houses the famous relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth and is without a doubt the cities most important landmark. The temple holds daily ceremonies called Puja’s (Thevava) every morning and night to honour the relic. Visitors get to see the Golden casing where the relic is kept during the ceremony where the rooms gates are opened. The ritualistic ceremony which includes traditional drums is a must for all those visiting the holy city of Kandy

Start Trekking to Knuckles, Climbing from Panwila & descending from Thangappuwa

Knuckles Massif or the Knuckles Mountain Range is part of the Hill Country of Sri Lanka, 3000 Ft or 915 Mts above sea level and covers an area of about 90 Sq.Miles or 234 Sq.Km. If you look at the mountain range from the Kandy area (Or South West of the range), you will see that the 5 peaks of the mountain range resemble knuckles of clenched fist, the range is named as such. The Sri Lankan name for this mountainous area is “Dumbara Mitiyawatha” which means “The Misty Vally”, it fits its name and is often an enchanting experience for its visitors. The mountainous are is off the beaten track and is truelly upsoilt offering the perfect setting for hikers and bird lovers alike.

Proceed to Horton Plains

Proceed to Horton Plains by trekking around 8KMs.

Horton Plains is Sri Lanka’s highest and most isolated plateau discovered by Sir Thomas Farr in 19^th hundreds. It’s named as Horton Plains in honour of the then British Governor of Sri Lanka Sir Horton. These beautiful hiking nature tracks are some of the best in the world and the only place where you can see a bear monkey (Semnopithecus vetulus monticola). The patna-grass-covered plains are also home to various endemic plant species, birds and insects that can only be seen in the region; In addition, it is possible to to spot Deer and even Leopards if you extremely lucky! The paths through the plain will take you to the precipice, popularly referred to as “Worlds End “- a sheer drop of 1050 meters and Bakers Falls!

Start the ascension of Adam’s Peak

This iconic 2,243 metre mountain is found in the centre of Sri Lanka. The mountain is one of the holiest sites in Sri Lanka known for the “Sri Pada” (Or “Sacred Footprint”). This 1,8-metre footprint embedded into the rock has a spiritual significance to the countries 4 major religious groups. The Buddhist believe this is lord Buddha’s footprint whereas Islamic and Catholic traditions believe it to be where Adam first set foot on earth. According to Hindu tradition the footstep belongs to deity Shiva. To make the most of your experience set of early in the morning to catch the breath-taking sunrise from the summit.

Reach the summit around 6 am for sunrise

Leave at 8am for climbing down towards Ratnapura using the lesser used Kuruwita Trail
